Darcey Bussell
[Cover information]: Darcey's video is a unique insight
into the backstage preparation and rehearsal of many of her most famous
classical roles. In addition are included 'Herman Scherman', which Darcey dances
with Adam Cooper and 'In The Middle Somewhat Elevated', both by William
Forsythe.
A performer of charismatic beauty, Darcey is Principal
Dancer of The Royal Ballet. On leaving the Royal Ballet School, Darcey had the
role of Princess Rose in 'Prince of the Pagodas', created for her by Kenneth
MacMillan, as well as Masha in his 'Winter Dreams'.
Darcey has toured worldwide and performed with the New
York City Ballet, the Kirov, the Australian Ballet and the Paris Opera.
Her versatility allows her a unique repertory which
includes: Mistress Truth-on-Toe in Twyla Tharp's Mr Worldly Wise, Juliet,
Giselle, Odette/Odile, Cinderella, Aurora, Sugar Plum Fairy Nikiya, Terpsichore,
Raymonda, Manon, Mitz Caspar in Mayerlin, Black Queen in Checkmate, Mathilde
Kschessinske in Anastasia.
Darcey won the Prix de Lausanne in 1996, joined SWRB in
1987, and moved to The Royal Ballet as First Soloist then Principal in 1989. She
received the Evening Standard Ballet Award for Most Promising Newcomer in 1990.
In 1995 she was awarded an OBE.
A full life study of Darcey is exhibited in Madam Tussauds and Alan Jones' famous portrait of her is now hung at No. 10 Downing Street.
